IB Students raise more than €700 for a good cause

A CAS project highlight took place on Sunday, the 7th of October as five eighth grade students from International School Kufstein Tirol hosted a successful charity flea market in the protestant church in Kufstein.

After weeks of planning, a CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service) project group from 8A held their final event, a charity flea market, on Sunday between 11:00 and 15:30 in the premises of the protestant church in Kufstein. The market sales, which ended up generating a total revenue of over €700, will be used to financially support low-income families from Kufstein and the surrounding area.

Clothes, tableware, books and DVDs were sold at the flea market amongst other things, and it seemed that quite a few people were glad to take the opportunity to get themselves a new set of plates or a new book as they were looking through the different offers. The cake buffet on site with the possibility of donating voluntarily also enjoyed great popularity, as none of the cakes were left after three hours.

The group’s motivation for their project came from their wish to make a difference locally, which resulted in them focusing on the “Service” aspect for their final CAS project and donating the money to people in need that live in Kufstein. Beforehand, the group had considered giving their revenue to a larger charity organisation, but eventually decided they wanted to be fully in charge of where the money would go.

Anna Lüthi, who was part of the group that organised the event, claimed that none of the group expected such an overwhelmingly positive response from the visitors, but that they’re happy to contribute such a big sum of money to a good cause.

The school administration is hopeful that this success will inspire future IB students to believe in their ability to make a change for the better in this world.
